DNA Test
A DNA test is a highly accurate test that is used to determine parentage, establish forensic evidence at the scene or a crime and help people determine family ties and national origin. It is documented that the accuracy of DNA testing is 99.9%. That is because no two people's DNA is exactly alike and it serves as a unique biochemical fingerprint to establish identity. DNA testing first came into public awareness during criminal trials where DNA evidence was used to prove or disprove a suspect's involvement in a crime. Later, uses for DNA testing including paternity testing as well as determining family ties and national origin.
Probably one of the most common uses for a DNA test today is to establish paternity. With test kits available in pharmacies around the country, it's a very easy procedure of swabbing the cheek for cells of the suspected father and the child. These are then placed in envelopes and sent to a lab for analysis. The test examines and compares the DNA of the two parties involved and matches it up based on certain markers. A person inherits certain characteristics of their DNA from their father and their mother. The test will determine whether a child's DNA contains characteristics from a parent's DNA.
People also use the results of a DNA test for immigration purposes. Often, it is now required to have a DNA sample run if you are trying to immigrate to the U.S. and are claiming that you have family here. The test will help expedite your application for immigration when they prove familial ties.
Another reason people have tests done is to help determine familial ties when it comes to extended families. This can include grandparents, half-brother or half-sister, cousins and aunt or uncle. These tests help people find long lost members of their family and establish new family ties where there were only questions before. Sometimes family members need to be tracked down for medical reasons like transplants and bone marrow donation. These tests can help with that.
A DNA test can also be done for more serious reasons like finding evidence of infidelity in a marriage. A strange hair or bodily fluids left on a mattress can be swabbed and sent to a lab for testing to determine if there has been any infidelity involved. These results can often be used in court to establish adultery in a divorce case or at least confirm to a person that their spouse is cheating on them.
The DNA test has become part and parcel of today's lexicon and is a common test that is run for a variety of reasons. People rely on these tests for their accuracy and to help clear up any questions that remain unanswered, whether they are about paternity or other family or medical matters that arise.
